Description

Broken Spokes is perhaps the first gritty, realistic Deaf drama – written by a Deaf playwright – veering away from the sweet, helpless, sexless view that the public generally has of deaf people.  This powerful, haunting, and heartbreaking play revolves around two Deaf brothers and a fiancée trapped in the spokes of a family cycle after a catastrophic accident. The story unveils visually through multiple points of view using American Sign Language, Sign-Mime/Visual Vernacular (a dying form of ASL storytelling), and spoken English.

Performances are October 17-19 and 24-26, 2013 in the Gilbert C. Eastman Studio Theatre, Gallaudet University, 800 Florida Avenue NE, Washington, DC 20002 [Metro – RED line – NoMa-Gallaudet].  Free, on-campus parking is available.

This production runs approximately two (2) hours with one (1) intermission.  All performances will be voice interpreted.

Appropriate for patrons 14 years old and up (children who are 5 years old or younger will not be permitted in the theatre).

All tickets sales are final - there are no refunds and no exchanges - due to the limited number of seats (100 seats) available for each performance.

Patrons need to be in their seats no later than 10 minutes before the show starts.  There will be no late seating once the show starts.

This on-line credit card system (TicketLeap) stops processing credit card transactions three (3) hours before the start of the event.  Once credit card transactions stop, ticket purchases must be made at the Box Office Window with cash or by local check.  The Box Office Window is open two (2) hours before each performance.

GALLAUDET STUDENTS - Full time Gallaudet students who have paid the fall 2013 semester unit receive one (1) free ticket with their ID.  This ticket must be picked up at the Box Office Window in Elstad Annex 120 at Gallaudet University during Box Office hours.

DO NOT buy a Gallaudet student ticket using this on-line credit card system unless you are sure that you do not qualify for one (1) free ticket with your Gallaudet ID.

Part-time Gallaudet Students (i.e., students taking ASL classes or PST classes; or students who have not paid the fall 2013 semester unit fee) can purchase tickets on-line using the "Non-Gallaudet Student" tidket category for $10 or at the Box Office Window for $12.
