JULIUS CAESAR

By Gallaudet University Theatre and Dance Program (other events)

9 Dates Through Nov 21, 2015

ABOUT ABOUT

Originally written for the London stage in 1599 and now considered among the most enduring works in his canon, Shakespeare’s play about the 44 BC conspiracy against the Roman dictator Julius Caesar—one which plunged ancient Rome into anarchy and toward a perilous future—discovers new resonance in a modern staging which taps into Deaf community dynamics and existential angst over identity intensified by developments in recent decades.

The passing of centuries has done little to diminish the potency and timeliness of Caesar as commentary on the universal nature of ambition, power, and accountability.  Gallaudet’s production, directed by Theatre and Dance program director, Ethan Sinnott, is the first to be performed by a Deaf cast in American Sign Language (ASL) at either university or professional levels.

Performances are November 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, and 21, 2015 at 8:00 pm and November 14, 15, and 21, 2015 at 2:00 pm  in the Gilbert C. Eastman Studio Theatre located in Elstad Annex 131, Gallaudet University, 800 Florida Avenue NE, Washington, DC 20002 [Metro – RED line – NoMa-Gallaudet].  Free, on-campus parking is available.

This production runs approximately two (2) hours with one (1) intermission.
