By Gallaudet University Theatre and Dance Program (other events)

10 Dates Through Feb 24, 2019

ABOUT ABOUT

BAGGAGE, written and directed by Gallaudet senior theatre major Nikolya Sereda, follows Michaela as she explores her sexuality and her Deaf identity, and learns about toxic relationships and unrequited love. Michaela is transferring to a mainstream program at a hearing high school, leaving behind her long-time crush at her deaf school. They share a love of music and their favorite musical RENT.  But at the new school, she meets Isabel who also loves music, so naturally Michaela introduces her to the Broadway show. Then things get complicated. RENT played a very large role in Nikolya's self-discovery when she was growing up and as a Deaf writer, she wanted to create a work that shines a light on the relationship between Deaf people and music, an experience that she had to navigate herself.

Performances are February 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, and 23, 2019 at 8:00 pm; and February 16, 17, 23, and 24, 2019 at 2:00 pm  in the Gilbert C.
